Young Scientists 6th Class
We will be bringing a social science project to ESB Science Blast in Limerick May 2020. “Can YouTube be used to increase Irish Vocabulary”? This project involves using YouTube to learn 100 words in Irish. These 100 words are located on our school blog – askeabns.wordpress.com- in the “Focloirín Cainte” section. We will also be using Kahoot to measure the levels of learning.
This promises to be an interesting project which can be continued in secondary school. We have always found this to be a very enjoyable day out which the children always find interesting. We will start working on this project when we return in January.
Quiz News. Well done to all the boys from fourth, fifth and sixth class who have been learning their quiz questions after school. To date the thirty two boys have learnt 600 questions. Practice will continue after Christmas until we approach Seactain na Gaeilge where we will enter two teams in a fun quiz for Primary schools. If you wish to view these questions just Google “Quiz questions for Children” This will take you to our school blog where all our quiz questions are located. This is a very popular section of our school blog with over 70,000 downloads of sets of questions. This year we are using the website Kahoot to enhance the learning of these questions and it is just brilliant. Just fantastic.
Box Of Books. To enhance the level of reading within the school, each class has access to a large box of books which the children enjoy thoroughly. These Boxes of Books will be rotated in the new year to present the children with new reading materials. Popular titles include Horrid Henry, Captain Underpants, David Walliams. Beano, Dandy etc.
These books are sourced in local bookshops such as Sue Ryder and Barnardo’s which offer an excellent choice of books at a very reasonable cost. Another source of books is the Lions Club Book sale. This fits perfectly with our Green School’s initiative which places a strong emphasis on recycling. The children are encouraged to take these books home and to enjoy reading. Also, each month Principal Ms Mulally presents books as prizes to acknowledge all the hard work that the boys undertake.
