More Sites!

Dear Parents and Children. We hope you are all safe and well. Many thanks for all the positive feedback and suggestions.  They are just brilliant!

1: Literacy. This is a funny clip of a Scottish Granny reading “The Wonky Donkey”  to her grandchild. It is important for two reasons. The first being that the best activity is for parents to read to their children. Secondly, the most important home work for children is to tell their Grandparents how much they love and miss them!

Our suggested author this week is Dr.  Seuss These are excellent books for phonics and rhymes which are so important when learning to read. Please look for other titles such as Green Eggs and Ham! Fox on Socks etc.

A site recommend from your feedback is

Audio Books

These are free audio readings of a whole range of books for children.  Let us know which are the best!

2: For PE a site that had a few recommendations was Cosmic Kids Yoga. This is a new one for us. Let us know what you think.

Cosmic Kids Yoga

3: For Maths revision we recommend That Quiz It looks a bit scary but it is a very useful site for practising your Maths.

Start with “Integers” then go to “Arithmetic”  Set the level to 1 and select ten questions. Off you go.

Once you become familiar with this site you can practise more difficult and greater levels. You can also practise Time, Money, Geometry, Measurement etc.

4: Our Irish Story this week is the Three Little Pigs.

See you all next week when we will be concentrating on Quizzes.

And once again thanks for all the positive feedback and recommended sites. Very much appreciated.

Sites for Children!

Dear Parents and children. We hope everyone is keeping well and safe.

Each week we plan to upload links to various sites that children and parents / guardians may find useful and entertaining.

To start with it will be a mixed bag! Feedback would be very much appreciated as it would allow us to make the links more relevant.

Do not forget that these links can be viewed on Smart TVs, Mobile Phones, iPads etc

1: Free Books. With libraries closed and everyone being encouraged to stay at home as much as possible, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that there are hundreds of “Audio-visual books” on YouTube. These are a few of our favourites. More to follow next week.

There are also Irish Stories on YouTube!

2: Maths and English: Excellent site that the children enjoy. There are a large amount of interactive programs on this site. Children in 1st class are familiar with this site. Levels of difficulty can be changed to engage older children. This is a very large site with many programs. Click on following link.

Maths and English

3: PE. Out and About!! Finally, remember that Carlow has one of the finest linear walks in the country.

This is the Barrow Track. You can start from the Rowing Club in town. You may go for a spin down to Milford or Borris or Athy etc and enjoy the walk from  there!  Primroses  and  Dandelions are  now in bloom!  Bluebells are on their way.

Barrow Track Walks

Please note Oak Park walks are limited at the moment due to maintenance work.

Míle Buíochas. See you next week.
